NuPlanet were appointed to provide an energy and sustainability strategy in support of the planning application to convert this iconic building in Ovingdean, Sussex into 65 new dwellings following the relocation of the Blind Veterans UK rehabilitation centre.

A retrofit energy strategy was developed with practical measures that would reduce CO2 emissions by 48% over minimum building regulation requirements, all while remaining sympathetic to the buildings Grade II listed status and exposed location overlooking Brighton seafront.

Other sustainable recommendations included gas free heating and DHW systems to reduce the sites reliance on fossil fuels, reduced water consumption targets, a site wide waste management plan, a sustainable transport strategy and considerations to promote health and wellbeing through various measures

Working closely with the design team, we were pleased to have secured an approval for this local historic building.

*Calculated for the whole development using Southern Water 2024/25 water tariff.
